Car loan calculator 2026: instalment, down payment and balloon

Enter the car price, the down payment and the bank's flat rate to see the monthly instalment, the insurance and the full cost of the car. Switch to "Which car can I afford?" to find the most expensive car your salary covers.

Short answer

Car instalment = (amount financed + profit − balloon payment) ÷ months. A down payment cuts the amount financed, and a balloon payment lowers the instalment but raises the total cost. Add comprehensive insurance (3% to 5% a year) to see the real cost of the car.

How the calculation works

  • Flat rate: car loans are usually quoted as a flat rate on the amount financed, spread evenly over the term.
  • Balloon payment: part of the price is left to the end of the contract. The instalment falls, but you pay profit on that part for the whole term.
  • Insurance: comprehensive insurance usually costs 3% to 5% of the car price a year. The calculator adds it so you see the real monthly cost.

Islamic banks call the bank's return "profit" rather than interest; the arithmetic is the same.

Regulatory rules by country

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia

  • Car finance is subject to the consumer finance term limit: 60 months.

  • For non-Qatari residents, financing may not exceed 80% of the car price.

🇧🇭 Bahrain

  • A personal car loan is consumer finance: a cap of 50% of gross income and a 7-year term, with no maximum financing ratio set out.

🇴🇲 Oman

  • We found no published Central Bank rule on the financing ratio or term for cars; the instalment falls within the deduction cap (we assumed up to 7 years).
