Frequently asked questions

Do the Gulf states tax salaries?

None of the six Gulf states tax employees' salaries in 2026. Expats mostly pay no social insurance either; nationals pay pension contributions. Each comparison shows the exact deductions.

How are the comparisons calculated?

The same gross salary in US dollars is converted into each currency at a fixed, dated exchange rate and run through each country's 2026 rules: income tax, social insurance and other mandatory deductions. Your home country is calculated for a single employee who is a national there; the Gulf state for a single expat.

Does a higher take-home pay mean I will be better off?

Not always. The comparisons cover taxes and mandatory contributions only. Rent, schooling, health care and the end-of-service gratuity also count, and each page lists what changes when you move.
