Enter your salary, years of service and unused leave days to see your entitlement and what the unused days are worth under the labour law of Bahrain.

Short answer

At least 30 days a year, at 2.5 days for each month after completing a year; anyone with less than a year of service gets leave in proportion to their time. The worker must take at least 15 days each year, 6 of them consecutive. Example: after 3 years of service the entitlement is 30 days a year, and 15 unused days on a basic salary of 800 Bahraini dinars are worth 400 Bahraini dinars.

What the law says

At least 30 days a year, at 2.5 days for each month after completing a year; anyone with less than a year of service gets leave in proportion to their time. The worker must take at least 15 days each year, 6 of them consecutive.

Payment for the annual leave balance is calculated on the last basic wage plus the social allowance, if any, or on the average of the last 3 months for piece-rate or commission workers (Article 47). The employer must settle the balance at least every two years, the worker is entitled to payment for the balance when employment ends, and the right lapses if it is proven that the worker refused in writing to take leave set by the employer (Article 59).

The law does not say whether the 30 days are calendar days or working days, and does not set a daily divisor for calculating the payment, so the calculator sets neither. Casual leave (up to 6 days a year) is deducted from annual leave. The basis for the payment is the basic wage plus the social allowance only.

Private Sector Labour Law No. 36 of 2012: Article 47, Article 58, Article 59, Article 64.

How the calculator works it out

  1. Daily wage = the basic monthly salary ÷ 30 (the law sets no divisor, so we use 30, the common practice) = 26.67 BHD on the example salary.
  2. Pay for unused leave = unused days × daily wage: 15 × 26.67 = 400 BHD.
