What the law says
15 days in the first year, 21 days from the second year, 30 days for anyone who has completed 10 full years with one or more employers or is over 50, and 45 days for people with disabilities and people of short stature. 7 more days for hazardous or unhealthy work or remote areas. Anyone with less than a year of service gets leave in proportion to their time, provided they have completed 6 months.
Leave is paid. The employer must settle the leave balance, or the pay in lieu of it, at least every 3 years, and if employment ends before the balance is used, the worker is entitled to pay in lieu. The right to payment lapses if the worker refuses in writing to take leave set by the employer (Article 125). The worker must take at least 15 days each year, 6 of them consecutive.
Official holidays, feasts and weekly rest days do not count towards leave (Article 124), so it is counted in working days. The 30-day entitlement also applies to anyone over 50 regardless of length of service, and the 10 years may be with one or more employers, which the calculator's length-of-service steps do not capture. The law does not say that leave pay is calculated on the basic wage; using the total wage is an inference from the definition of wage in Article 1. Casual leave of up to 7 days a year (2 days at most at a time) is deducted from annual leave. The daily divisor is not written in the law, so the calculator does not assume one.
Labour Law issued by Law No. 14 of 2025: Article 1 (definition of wage), Article 124 (annual leave length), Article 125 (settlement and cash in lieu), Article 128 (casual leave).
How the calculator works it out
- Daily wage = the total monthly salary ÷ 30 (the law sets no divisor, so we use 30, the common practice) = 675 EGP on the example salary.
- Pay for unused leave = unused days × daily wage: 15 × 675 = 10,125 EGP.
