How to add or remove VAT

  • Add VAT: price before VAT × 1.17 = price including VAT. For example, 250 becomes 292.50.
  • Remove VAT: price including VAT ÷ 1.17 = price before VAT. The difference is the VAT. For example, 585 including VAT is 500 before VAT and 85 VAT.
  • Do not take 17% off a gross price: 17% of 1,170 is 198.90, but the VAT inside it is 170.
