What the law says
At least 30 days a year on the comprehensive wage, which may not be taken before 6 months from joining. The carried-over balance may not exceed 30 days unless the leave was not taken in the interest of the work, and leave of at least 30 days must be taken at least once every two years.
Annual leave is paid at the comprehensive wage (basic plus all increments and allowances). During employment, the employer may pay only the basic wage for unused leave days if the worker agrees in writing. When employment ends, the worker is entitled to the comprehensive wage for their balance (Article 81).
The law does not say whether the 30 days are calendar days or working days, so the calculator applies no figure for it. Cash in lieu of leave during employment is on the basic wage, and at the end of employment on the comprehensive wage. A non-Omani worker gets a return air ticket to take the leave agreed in the contract. The law took effect the day after its publication in Official Gazette issue 1504 of 30 July 2023.
Labour Law issued by Royal Decree No. 53 of 2023: Article 1 (a month is 30 days), Article 78, Article 79, Article 81.
How the calculator works it out
- Daily wage = the total monthly salary ÷ 30 = 36 OMR on the example salary.
- Pay for unused leave = unused days × daily wage: 15 × 36 = 540 OMR.
