Enter your last salary and how long you have worked to see the gratuity you are owed in Oman, whether you resign or the employer ends the contract.

Short answer

Article 61 of the Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 53/2023 says a worker who does not benefit from the Social Protection Law, meaning an expat, is entitled to a gratuity of at least one month's basic pay for each year of service, with part years counted pro rata, based on the last basic pay. Service before the law was issued is included. Example: 5 years of service on a basic salary of 1,000 Omani rials (1,400 with allowances) gives 5,000 Omani rials when the contract ends or the employer ends it.

How it is calculated

The 5-year example above, step by step:

  1. One month's basic wage for each year: 5 × 1000 = 5000 rials
  • Article 61 of the Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 53/2023: a gratuity of no less than one month's basic wage for each year of service, with parts of a year counted pro rata, based on the last basic wage. The law does not reduce it on resignation and sets no cap.
  • This gratuity applies until the savings scheme of the Social Protection Fund starts. After that, the employer pays 9% of basic pay each month to the Fund instead of the gratuity, and settles the earlier period.
  • A worker can lose it if dismissed for one of the serious reasons in Article 40.
