What the law says
At least 3 weeks (21 days) for service of less than 5 years, and at least 4 weeks (28 days) for service of 5 years or more, after completing one continuous year, with leave for fractions of a year in proportion to service.
Annual leave pay is calculated on the basic wage on the date it falls due (Article 72). If the contract ends for any reason before the leave is taken, the worker is entitled to a cash payment equal to their wage for those days (Article 81), based on the basic wage under Article 72.
The law sets the length in weeks, so it is counted in calendar days (3 weeks = 21 days, 4 weeks = 28 days). Leave may be split into two periods at most with the worker's consent, and up to half of it may be postponed to the following year on written request (Article 80). We could not reach the Al Meezan portal or the Qatari Ministry of Labour website to check the consolidated text after amendments (such as Decree-Law 18 of 2020), and these articles are not known to have been amended.
Labour Law No. 14 of 2004: Article 8, Article 72, Article 79, Article 80, Article 81.
How the calculator works it out
- Daily wage = the basic monthly salary ÷ 30 = 333 QAR on the example salary.
- Pay for unused leave = unused days × daily wage: 15 × 333 = 5,000 QAR.
