Deductions on $5,000 a month, line by line
Every deduction from the same gross salary in each country, in local currency, with the calculator's notes.
- Calculated annually on a standard 1257L tax code. In practice National Insurance is worked out on each monthly pay separately; the annual result is the same if the salary is steady.
- Student loan repayments and workplace pension auto-enrolment contributions (usually 5% from the employee within a set band) are not included, because you can opt out of the pension.
- The Personal Allowance is tapered above £100,000, which is why an effective marginal rate of 60% (or 67.5% in Scotland) shows in this range.
- The employer contribution does not include the Employment Allowance, which many small businesses claim.
- There is no income tax on salaries in Qatar, and no VAT is in force.
- Expat employees are not covered by the Qatari social insurance law. Instead they are entitled to an end-of-service gratuity under the Labour Law.
