  • Calculated annually on a standard 1257L tax code. In practice National Insurance is worked out on each monthly pay separately; the annual result is the same if the salary is steady.
  • Student loan repayments and workplace pension auto-enrolment contributions (usually 5% from the employee within a set band) are not included, because you can opt out of the pension.
  • The Personal Allowance is tapered above £100,000, which is why an effective marginal rate of 60% (or 67.5% in Scotland) shows in this range.
  • The employer contribution does not include the Employment Allowance, which many small businesses claim.

  • There is no income tax on salaries in Saudi Arabia.
  • We assumed the contributory wage equals your gross salary, up to the cap of 45,000 Saudi riyals a month. In practice the contribution is worked out on the basic wage plus housing allowance only, so if part of your pay is other allowances (transport, for example) the actual deduction will be lower.
  • Nothing is deducted from a non-Saudi employee's salary. The employer pays 2% for occupational hazards, and the employee is entitled to an end-of-service award when the contract ends.
