  • The 7% social insurance contribution is deducted from the salary, then the first 12,560 pounds a month is exempt, and anything above that is taxed at 15%.
  • The calculator assumes the whole salary is a fixed monthly wage. Non-recurring payments (bonuses, overtime) are taxed at a flat 5% with no tax-free minimum.
  • From January to April 2026 the tax-free minimum was 8,370 new pounds (837,000 old pounds); the calculator applies the current minimum to the whole year.
  • The employer share of social insurance is not counted in the employer cost, because we have not confirmed it from an official source.

  • There is no income tax on salaries in Saudi Arabia.
  • We assumed the contributory wage equals your gross salary, up to the cap of 45,000 Saudi riyals a month. In practice the contribution is worked out on the basic wage plus housing allowance only, so if part of your pay is other allowances (transport, for example) the actual deduction will be lower.
  • Nothing is deducted from a non-Saudi employee's salary. The employer pays 2% for occupational hazards, and the employee is entitled to an end-of-service award when the contract ends.

Moving from Syria to Saudi Arabia: what changes

  • On $3,000 a month you gain about $613 a month after the move ($7,357 a year), because the deduction rate falls from 20.4% to 0%.
  • On $10,000 a month, each extra dollar of a raise loses 0% in Saudi Arabia instead of 15% in Syria, so pay rises are worth more after the move.

  • You gain a legal right to an end-of-service gratuity in Saudi Arabia (about $7,500 after 5 years on $3,000 a month), which no general scheme provides in Syria.
  • Tax residence in Saudi Arabia: Under Article 3 of the Implementing Regulations of the Income Tax Law, an individual is resident if they have a permanent home in the Kingdom and are present there for at least 30 days in the tax year, or if they are present for at least 183 days, consecutive or not, even without a permanent home. You may also stay tax resident in Syria if you do not end your residence there. Count your days.
  • Syria and Saudi Arabia have a double tax treaty (in force, 2009). It decides which country taxes income when both could. Check other treaties.
